What is embossing - Embossing is a 3D effect created by raising your design up from the surface of the card or paper.
This is acheived by using a set of embossing plates (force and counterforce).
The 'force' plate is a raised copy of your design, which pushes the design through the card from behind, and the counterforce is a sunken copy of your design, which the card is pushed up into.
This process creates the 3D/embossed finish that you can see on some of the business cards on this page.
What is debossing - Debossing is where the impression is pushed into the paper or card to create a sunken effect, and will work well with most types of design.
A raised print plate is made from your design (usually in brass or magnesium), which is then used to press the design, or foil colour, into the card or paper leaving an indentation.
What is blind debossing - You can also remove the foil colour from the foil printing process which gives you blind debossing.
Blind debossing can be used to create a beautifully subtle print effect and can be used on intricate designs to give your design depth and a tactile finish.
Clear foil printing - if you want a blind debossed effect, but need it to have a little more visual impact, then clear foil printing is the way to go. The clear foils can be gloss, matt or iridescent and will really enhance the look of your debossed image (this looks particularly good on white or black cards).
The clear gloss foil printing will give an effect similar to spot varnish, but works well on uncoated cards and will also give you the debossed finish.
Whether you choose debossing, embossing, blind debossing or clear foil printing, we can guarantee that the extra visual dimension these processes give to your business cards will leave a great impression on your clients, as well as your business cards.
These print processes can also be applied to envelopes and other stationery items.

Black gloss and white gloss foils, applied to black/white stocks, will give a similar print finish to the clear foil debossing.
If you're uncertain about the suitability of your design for any of the above processes please get in touch.
